Traditional Hatha yoga with focus on correct approach to spine is based on static asanas.
I will start a class with a bit of theory about basics of yoga: breath, mind-body connection, role of spine, detox, relaxation & cleansing techniques. I will add shatkarma at the beginning of the class and explain benefits and precautions of this specific one and we will practice it together. This will be followed by asanas.
I will explain and show potential risks of misalignment in asanas, benefits and precautions of various asanas. Adjustments are taken seriously in my classes.
And I will guide you into relaxation at the end of the practice.
My classes are for these who understands importance of doing yoga correctly.
My approach explained here:
Our spine’s main role is to protect nervous system which is inside it, namely spinal cord. This nervous system is a “hard drive” which rules all body-mind processes using nerves impulses which come in and out of spinal cord. By receiving, processing and sending out information to the body it organises the work of whole system.
If working with the spine incorrectly in yoga asanas or any other physical exercises it may lead to displacement of vertebras followed by jamming of nerves or their overstretching. Displacement of vertebras may be from fraction of millimeter to 2 millimeters. Hence distortion of nerves signals arises which leads to dysfunction of the organ for which this nerve is responsible. The functional failure may lead to somatic disease if displacement of vertebra isn’t corrected.
Damage of an intervertebral disks occur as a result of displaced vertebras. Therefore joints and ligaments will try to compensate increased mobility of vertebras and become hypertrophied.
Thus incorrect directions of mobility of spine, in particular incorrect performing of twists and bends will result in looseness of spine.
I avoid hyper mobility of musculoskeletal system in classes. One of the purposes of asana practices is strengthening of muscles responsible for stability of spine. These are static long hold asanas and specially designed vinyasas, which assist in strengthening certain segments of musculoskeletal system in order to optimize use of potential of physical body. Body of a practitioner will become strong and healthy resulting in balanced mind.
