This advanced two-day weekend course gives you the opportunity to explore fused glass jewellery in more depth with a focus on achieving your own personal style and a professional finish.
Designing our own glass, we will create personalised individual sheets of glass using transparent, opaque, dichroic and reactive glass, with additional access to variety of inclusions, frit, stringers, and decorative media. We will work in Bullseye or Spectrum glass ranges.
There is a wide range of techniques we can cover including a selection of the following depending on your priorities for learning:
You will learn about:
Combining and exploring appropriate combinations of glass (by COE)
Working with reactive glass for new and interesting decorative effects
Kiln firing for the techniques for full fuse, tack fusing and fire polishing (as well as decals and glass paints)
Making personally designed sheets of glass on day 1 with which we will shape and create individual pieces of jewellery on day 2
Using decals, fibre-board, glass media and other inclusions
Making glass rods and use jewellery moulds
To safely use cold-working studio equipment for fine cutting, drilling, to produce finished glass pieces for jewellery
Pre-planning your designs to include the necessary findings to ensure your jewellery is wearable to a professional finish
Problem solving, working individually and as a peer group to learn from each others experience and creativity
Design and make a final set of pieces by the end of day 2, using techniques we have covered
Admiring each others work and be inspired by our creativity!
Please note this workshop takes place in a working glass studios. It is therefore essential that you wear closed toe shoes due to working with tools, glass and shards of glass and frit. Please avoid loose clothing or dangly jewellery and tie long hair back. We will be using goggles and masks where required for Health and Safety purposes too. Thank you.
